My Quickest Shower

My plan for today was to do a mini-workout in my apartment this morning and then, while my 7w old son took his mid-morning nap I would shower really quick. He started fussing so I took him out onto our patio and we laid in the hammock. I gently rocked him as he fell asleep. After waiting a few extra minutes so that he wouldn’t startle awake, I quietly went back inside and placed him down.

Like a mad woman I started doing my crunch workout in an effort to lose some of my postpartum baby-pudge. After 500 abs I did some core work (you know, to try and obtain one). I got a good little half hour session in when all of the sudden he was wide awake.

Let the timer begin! He’s happy right now but I’m covered in sweat and want to shower fast, especially because the idea of nursing him while I’m all sweaty grosses me out. I drag my little turtle in his Rock-n-Play into the bathroom and leave the door open so he won’t get hot and step in the shower.

I get the shampoo rinsed and the conditioner in when the crying starts. So far, I’ve been doing this at record speed but apparently, it’s not fast enough. I start talking to him through the curtain, attempting to soothe him but to no avail. Half way through soaping up I peek out of the curtain, assure him that Momma is here but he won’t even look at me. His adorable little face is beet red as he verbalizes his dismay, tears streaming down his face.

As if I don’t feel terrible enough about this scenario, then the lip quiver starts! Oh my God, I cannot handle the lip quiver, it about gets my tears flowing. What kind of mother am I to think I deserve a 3-minute shower after a quick workout? I don’t even think I got all of the conditioner rinsed and I’m pretty sure I removed the soap beneath my arms with my towel and I rushed out, soaking wet, to pick up and sooth my son.

All I can think of is how am I going to shower when Dylan goes to Nashville next week? He’s going to be gone for 4 days and Raylan either needs to take longer naps or I’m going to be one smelly Mommy!
